Gerry McDermott in the Irish Independent’s
end of season Eircom League review ( Dec 3rd) has selected it
as his Book of the Year. The full extract reads:
“BOOK OF THE YEAR: Jim Murphy’s superb ‘History of Dundalk
FC’ is the most comprehensive history of an Eircom League club yet.”
The Sunday Independent ( Dec 14th), review by Sean Ryan reads:
“The most comprehensive history of an Irish club I have seen, this
is a monumental piece of research with almost 400 pages chock-full of
highs, lows and statistics. There are anecdotes aplenty concerning the
myriad players and managers who served the club, but the accounts make
interesting reading too. For instance, the AGM of 1941 reported “a
whopping surplus of £659, the best since the formation of the club.”
The figures will make present-day treasurers green with envy, for the
gate receipts of £1,906 far exceeded the players’ wages and
expenses of £1,094. Those were the days!”
[This should have read ‘almost 500 pages’]
Programme Monthly, January 2004:
“…must surely provide the last word on the first 100 years
of the famous Irish club. Liberally illustrated throughout, the story
is told season-by-season, with the chronological narrative interrupted
by features on specific events in the history of the Club, Irish and World
Football. Statistics are woven into the story, as are biographies of notable
players, and the format is sufficiently loose to allow greater detail
to be given of notable events and successful seasons.
Beautifully printed on semi gloss paper, this is a superb addition to
football’s bibliography.”
Soccer-Books.co.uk:
"An excellent, well-produced official history of the Irish club,
Dundalk F.C. throughout its first 100 years. Includes a statistical section
featuring the result of every game 1926-2003. Published in 2003."
Size: 178mm x 251mm – 485 pages.
